Ludington is rich in Maritime History and a Maritime theme used to market the area would make sense from that perspective. Community monikers are common, from the Big Apple to the Victorian Village. They can help a community but when not planned for carefully can restrict and box in a community's effort to promote it-self. In earlier articles we looked at previous attempts to market the area to those on the outside that are looking for a great place to live, start a business, career and raise a family. From the Ludington the Beautiful Campaign in the 1890's to Ludington on the Lake from around 1905 to the 1920's, to a City for all Seasons these all were attempts to create a community brand. Each effort historically had its success and it's failures but did not meet up with the visions of its founders to bring in 40,000 more people into the area. A Community Moniker is that special something that people would associate with Ludington and at the same time create a desire to come, visit, build, buy and spend money hasn't quite yet come together. Say smore, did your mouth start watering for that tasty snack? That type of connection is what you also want from a community campaign. Manistee's Victorian Village has a focus on the architecture and they present it well. Charlevoix the Beautiful, is another.
